Research Associate

Zhizhong Yan

Dr. Yan received the B.Sc. degree in applied physics with the award of Outstanding Bachelor Degree Student from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China in 1991, the M.Sc. degree in electronics engineering from Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China, in 1996. He received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees, both in electrical engineering, from Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Waterloo, Waterloo, ON, Canada, in 2004, and 2010, respectively. His Ph.D. thesis was focused on the optoelectronic detection and mixing in the superconducting nanowire devices. He had been working as a Postdoc Fellow in the Institute for Quantum Computing in the field of fundamental and applied quantum photonics including wide area of single photon detection devices, systems and relevant technologies; quantum entanglement; as well as other quantum information related engineering topics such as space to ground quantum key distribution. He had been working as a research associate in the Centre for Ultrahigh bandwidth Devices for Optical Systems (CUDOS), and MQ Photonics Research Centre, Department of Physics and Astronomy at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia from November 2012 to February 2016. His main research focus was integrated quantum photonics on the femtosecond laser direct writing platform with transparent optical materials. He has achieved the highest birefringence on silica glass that allows for largest signal and idler wavelength distance for single photon generation. From April 2016, he worked as postdoc fellow in Professor Helmy’s group in the Edward S. Rogers Sr. Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering,
University of Toronto. His current research is in quantum nonlinear optics on the semiconductor integrated photonics platform.
